Sweetly Broken

I have kind of claimed this song as my anthem.  I want this for my life...

Sweetly Broken.
Wholly Surrendered.

The last two weeks have been crazy here. We started getting sick on a Thursday, followed by Justin getting laid off on Friday and a death in the family on Saturday. Maleiah had bronchitis was on antibiotics and a breathing treatment. I had a sinus infection, Justin had a bit of it all and Caeden got the least of it. In my parenting life I have never felt worse and together, Justin and I made barely one functioning parent. We are still processing so much and I found the one thing I actually wanted to do was blog. Probably to just get it all out of my head but really it was a jumbled mess so I spared you. Really.  From the moment I found out Justin was laid off again I was really trying to think of the good.  Knowing that everything happens for a reason {but why?}, knowing that God cares and will take care of us {really?}...

My heart was {and still is} scared but trusting.

Children Devotions

The Big Book of Questions and Answers:A Family Devotional Guide To The Christian Faith by Sinclair B. Ferguson

"The heavens declare the glory of God and the skies proclaim the works of his hands." Psalm 19:1

We have had this book for awhile but I just pulled it out over the weekend and I am using it for our daily devotions. We did one this morning and it was great! It gives a question about God and an answer as well as a Memory Verse. It has discussion starters and an activity and ends with a prayer. I did everything but the activity and prayer this morning at the breakfast table and when Caeden gets home we are going to do the activity and use the prayer tonight before bed. We said the memory verse at the table and he and I practiced it on our way to school as well. It was a great way to start our morning and I am looking forward to our afternoon and tomorrow morning.

Journey

*This is something I wrote for a newsletter earlier this year. *

Until three years ago I had been pretty self sufficient and I said that I trusted God but I really did not know what that truly meant. In November, of 2004 I was five months pregnant with a baby girl and my water broke causing a cord prolapsed and later delivering her stillborn. Just before this, God had been teaching me about his goodness, faithfulness and his greatness. When I first drove home from the doctor when they first told us we would probably lose our daughter the song in my CD player was “How Great Is Our God” by Chris Tomlin…

“How great is our God, sing with me
How great is our God, all will see
How great, How great Is our God
Name above all names
You are Worthy of our praise and
My heart will sing how great is our God”

I decided then that He was great and would be glorified, no matter what. I had a choice and during the time of waiting after my water broke I constantly had to choose to trust Him and believe that He was good no matter what the outcome was for our situation. After the loss of Ella Grace we were so overwhelmed by the outpouring of love from family and friends and so filled with peace, even we were surprised at the calmness that surrounded us.

“The Lord gives strength to His people; the Lord blesses His people with peace.” Psalm 29:11

I knew that God was in it and it sank me deeper into his presence and love for me.
Last year I was pregnant and had to go into the hospital at 22 weeks and stayed there until I was 34 weeks pregnant. At the beginning of our stay the outlook was grim (according to the doctors) and we again looked at a mountain that seemed impossible to cross over but we knew that the other side would bring glory to God and we were excited at what He would do. I read in Exodus of the Israelites being afraid of the Egyptians marching after them. They were terrified and so was I. This was Moses’ answer and I proclaimed it as mine as well.

“Moses answered the people ‘Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.’”

I found humor in this, since all I could do was be still as I lay in a bed for 10 weeks.

So we began, made a choice to believe that God was great and through much faith, prayer and perseverance we were blessed to bring home a daughter, Maleiah Joye in October of 2006.
As trials come I choose to know that God is big enough and He wants good for me. What I see as good is drastically different than what my Father in heaven sees as good. I trust Him with it all and I try really hard not to take it into my own hands.

Friends, God is great and we get to choose how we respond to that greatness in good times and bad. Will I trust Him when something devastating comes? Will I allow Him to be glorified no matter what the outcome? I see the mountain. I do not really know what is on the other side, but I am very curious what that might be, so I walk with Him, listening to His promises and leaning on Him for he bears it all.

“Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give men in exchange for your life. Do not be afraid for I am with you; I will bring your children from the east and gather you from the west. I will say to the north, ‘Give them up!’ and to the south, “Do not hold them back!’ Bring my sons from afar and my daughters’ from the ends if the earth-everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for my glory, whom I formed and made."

Learning from Ants

Good Morning!

This morning we overslept and so it was a rush to get it all done this morning and Caeden was still late for school...homeschooling doesn't seem so bad on days like this. :) I returned home with Maleiah and I decided NOT to get on the computer because it really does suck the very day away and then I am agitated with how I spent my time so I started laundry, started the dishwasher and straightened up the living room/kitchen areas.

I felt accomplished but really what I needed was to be in God's word. So I sat down, got Maleiah some books to look at and worked on my Bible Study from CBS and worked on the lesson from 2 weeks ago, yes I am a little behind. :) It was all about the taking care of the business of life...just the stuff we do daily.

Proverbs 6:6-8

"Go to the ant, you sluggard; consider it's ways and
be wise!
It has no commander, no overseer or ruler, yet it stores it's
provisions in summer and gathers it's food at harvest."

Ants....such a nuisance but gosh they work hard and I am supposed to learn from them. What I am learning from this verse is first of all it is important because there is an exclamation point at the end of the first sentence.

"...consider it's ways and be wise!"

I took notice of that and so I consider. They do all this working hard and they have NO ruler or overseer and yet they still work hard knowing that it is for their very survival and they also work as a team. Yet I have an overseer, God is my ruler and my king so how much more should I be working hard in my home, for my relationship with God, with my husband and my children, caring for them, loving them? And not "just doing it" but doing it excellently and doing my best!

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

"Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly
will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap
generously. Each man should give what he has decided to give not
reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God
is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times,
having all you need, you will abound in every good work."

Am I reaping sparingly or generously in my home and relationships?

Have I been giving reluctantly or under compulsion?

Have I been cheerful in my giving or sour?

Am I trusting God to work through me? Letting him be all I need to "abound in every good work"?

Those ants are smart little fellows.

Thank you Lord for your grace and for your word. You are awesome and I am thrilled to be where I am today. Please help me be a cheerful giver in my home and in my relationships with those in my home and those outside of it.
