Visions of Second Grade Dancing In My Head

The ordering has begun! This time of year is SOOOOO exciting! My homeschooling girlfriends agree. Purchasing curriculum is a thrill!

We are following a Classical Education dipped in Charlotte Mason or maybe it's the other way around? Some days I can't decide which I love more!

During the summer we have been working on the 1st grade math book for Horizons and Caeden is doing well! We are also catching up on our grammar with First Language Lessons and learning some new poetry. Our math goal is to get to the end of the first book of the 2nd grade Horizons curriculum by the end of 2nd grade...did that sound confusing?

So this is the plan for second grade:

Math: Horizons Math 1 & 2

Spelling: Spelling Workout B

Grammar: First Language Lessons

Phonics: Explode the Code, Books 4, 5 and 6

History: Ancient Greece & Ancient Rome (following the Veritas Press time line flash cards...these are BEAUTIFUL! Love them!)

Bible/Character: We are going to be learning the shorter catechism for memory work, using Draw to Learn the Book of Proverbs and A Child's Book of Character Building.

Science: Human Body & Earth Science

Art: Discovering Great Artists (Cassatt, Picasso, Van Gogh, Monet, Audubon & Renoir) I am so excited about this part of our art studies! We are also going to continue to use How to Teach Art to Children...lots of great ideas!

Music: I am also pretty excited about our Composer studies, listening to great classical music and learning about the lives of these composers (Bach, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Chopin & Mozart)

When the boxes start arriving I will post pictures! I know, you can hardly wait! :)
