Art Night

We have started doing art nights again...it's been a long time and the kids have been requesting it.  I had found this project (and this one too) online and thought they would be fun for our bedrooms.  So we each sat down with tape and paint....

A Boy's Room

I have always wanted to go all out for the kids rooms and it seems as though we always made a good attempt but it never was a finished product.  So, before we moved here I new we would have a rather neutral backdrop and I started making plans for the rooms.  For Caeden's room we picked an explorer/beach.  We didn't want to commit to too much because interests change but we felt like these themes kind of ran into each other and connect interests that we also have as a family.  It flowed.

I love the use of maps in bedrooms but we can't afford a wall mural so we are improvising, making this idea our own.

I loved this bedding from Pottery Barn and it will grow with Caeden no matter what his room can eventually turn into.

Before we moved, my friend Amanda toted her kids and my kids to her dads shop and they painted Caeden's bunk bed and dresser.  The kids loved it {it was like a dream come true for Maleiah} and it made a memory.

Going On A Leaf Hunt

A spontaneous family art night.

leafhunt

Stained Glass Leaves:
  • wax paper
  • leaves
  • hot iron
  • construction paper cut into strips for frame.
*Make sure the wax paper is ironed right side together or it won't melt correctly.  These are so pretty hanging in a window!

    Works For Me Wednesday-Nature Bag

I am hoping in all the chaos of second grade this year to do some nature study using this great book:

    and these:
So to make things bit easier when we are on the way I put together this bag! It has a supply box for each of the kids with {colored pencils, crayons, glue, tape...}, a sketch book and some of the above mentioned books. I purchased a canvas bag at my friend Joanns and had the kids decorate it with fabric markers. All the stuff goes in and then when we are leaving I don't have to scurry for pencils, crayons, sketch books, etc...just grab and go. OH! But don't forget the camera...I thought about getting them each their own disposable camera but that will cost more $$$ and time than I am willing to part with so the digital goes with.

    Family Art Night-Drawing

This week we did some drawing for Family Art Night! I requested every 1-2-3 Draw book and Ed Emberley book from the library {there are still some waiting on the hold shelf!} and we laid them on the table. Caeden did a great job and could draw so quickly! A year ago he would get so frustrated, it was neat to see him enjoy it and add details to his pictures. Justin drew our bathroom...he has a one track mind.

    Family Art Night~Clay Insects

I am trying to come up with projects to do on Family Art Night....Caeden loves clay so I thought we would go that route and see what happens!

We chose an insect theme and it took off from there. Justin is a great artist and spent the most time on his {unfortunately} wingless dragonfly. The kids and I made caterpillars, ladybugs, a termite {a good one!} and roly poly's ("Pollo!" says Maleiah. She has no idea she is saying chicken in Spanish).

Of course we listened to our new favorite CD, appropriately called Family Time!
    Family Time~Ziggy Marley
Music that makes a difference which I love. Learn the ABC song but don't associate the good old song with apples, balls, and cats. Now it's Africa, Brother and Caring. Words that actually mean something, globally. My favorite is "Ziggy Says" which is a {"Simon Says"} song with some silliness, hugging, smiling and peace sign throwing. Maleiah loves this CD and asks for "Ziggy Marley!" by name. Gotta love that; a two year old that can pick out Marley music on a play list. :)
